Power in the South
Invest where democracy is being built and defended — the American South.
Why this portfolio works
The South is often overlooked by national democracy funding, yet it's where some of the most important civic work is happening. This portfolio supports locally led organizations building civic participation, leadership, and community power across Southern states — layering strong regional anchor organizations with smaller, deeply rooted local efforts.
Building durable power in the South takes more than one kind of organization. This portfolio combines regional voter engagement, movement-building and popular education, state policy advocacy, and immigrant civic participation — so organizations working at different points in the system reinforce one another.
